Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Friday from Cheltenham; For Non Stop (2.45) and Rock Of Deauville (5.40). Compare odds.
Cheltenham stages their first meeting of the season this afternoon and, though there will be many bigger and better days at the track throughout the months ahead, it is great to have racing back at Prestbury Park.
The concluding conditions jockeys’ handicap hurdle sees the reappearance of Rock Of Deauville (5:40) who begins the season on a fair mark and he can strike for Paul Nicholls and Ryan Mahon.
The son of Ultravox took a while to warm to hurdling, but he ran an eye-catching race in the Fred Winter and looked all over the winner of a decent race at Ascot last time, before falling two out.
For Non Stop (2:45) improved out of all recognition last year, beginning the season winning a Chepstow handicap off 112 and, after chasing home Grands Crus in November and finishing fourth in the Challow Hurdle over Christmas, the six-year-old was running a huge race when falling at the last in the Coral Cup.
Nick Williams’ charge looked booked for second that day and he was over the top when flopping at Aintree. A point-to-point winner in Ireland back in March 2009, he is fancied to land the 2m4f novices’ chase under new stable jockey, James Reveley.
Friday’s selections:
2:45 Cheltenham For Non Stop (11/10 Paddy Power)
5:40 Cheltenham Rock Of Deauville (13/8 general)
