Anyway, onwards and upwards with this afternoon’s action and the pick of four cards in Britain and Ireland comes from Cork, where First Lieutenant (4:30) can make it two from two over fences in the 2m4f novice chase.
Last season’s Cheltenham Festival winner made a winning debut at Tipperary a fortnight ago and, with that initial experience under his belt, he should be difficult to beat under optimum conditions.
Oscar Dan Dan is another high-class hurdler and his participation should ensure the selection isn’t sent off too short; Mouse Morris’s six-year-old opened up at 4/5 on Saturday evening.
Earlier on the card King Vuvuzela (2:20) is worth supporting in the opening maiden hurdle for Paul Nolan and Alain Cawley.
The son of Flemensfirth looked a horse to follow when winning a bumper on his racecourse debut at the Punchestown Festival in May and, though he lacks previous hurdling experience, the four-year-old is taken to score at the first time of asking.
