Paul Ferguson has two selections on Sunday, both at Tipperary; Steps To Freedom at 4.10 and First Lieutenant at 5.15. Compare odds.
While most of the racing world will be focused on Longchamp today, Tipperary stages a fascinating mixed meeting and the five jumps races are very interesting.
Yesterday’s two selections completely encapsulated the National Hunt game, with Grabtheglory’s final flight blunder costing him success, while Sizing Europe was a most fortunate winner after Rubi Light crashed out at the last fence.
Jumping will be at a premium in the Grade 3 Like A Butterfly Novice Chase, but granted a clear round First Lieutenant (5:15) should make a winning debut over the larger obstacles for Mouse Morris and Davy Russell.
Twice a winner at the highest level during his novice hurdle campaign last year, the six-year-old is a former winning pointer and has long been considered a potentially top-class chaser.
Earlier on the card Steps To Freedom (4:10) is worthy of support in the Grade 3 Dolores Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle, despite the fact that the ground is far from ideal.
The winner of the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree when trained by Gordon Elliott, he developed in to a smart performer on the Flat before being switched to hurdles by current trainer, Jessie Harrington.
A very easy winner on debut at Fairyhouse just 10 days ago, it is worth taking a chance that he can handle the ground and his class will see him through, as stable-mate Bullock Harbour would also prefer better going, while both Tavern Times and Jim Will Fix It probably need further to be seen at their best.
Sunday’s selections:
4:10 Tipperary: Steps To Freedom (3/1 Boylesports)
5:15 Tipperary: First Lieutenant (4/5 Boylesports)
