Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday Grabtheglory at Fontwell and Sizing Europe at Gowran Park Compare odds.
Henry De Bromhead brought Loosen My Load back to action last Saturday and this week it’s time for his stable-star Sizing Europe (4:05) to makes his seasonal reappearance in the
PriceWaterHouseCoopers Champion Chase at Gowran Park.
The nine-year-old was only successful once last year, when impressively landing the Queen Mother at Cheltenham and it’s a slight concern that he was beaten first time out last year.
However, he could never quite get on terms with a race-fit China Rock over 2m7f that day and this intermediate trip could well prove ideal (he has only run over 2m4f once when making a winning debut over fences).
Rubi Light will pose the biggest threat today, as he did nothing but improve last year and ran a cracker at the festival himself, but he too is having his first start of the season and Sizing Europe’s class should see him through.
Fontwell’s opening novices’ hurdle is an interesting little race, despite only six horses going to post. Arab League went down by just a nose on his debut over hurdles recently and is bound to be popular, but he may be worth taking on at the prices with Grabtheglory (2:30) who had useful placed form in bumpers, before winning at Plumpton in May.
The selection’s best effort came on debut at Kempton in February, which suggests the lay-off shouldn’t be an issue, and Gary Moore has an unenviable record at his local track.
Saturday’s selection:
2:30 Fontwell: Grabtheglory (7/2 general)
4:05 Gowran Park: Sizing Europe (10/11 Boylesports)
