The totejackpot is set to hit a record £2.5million on Friday after a massive rollover following a failure to land the bet for a ninth day.
A rollover of £1,262,152 is carried forward to tomorrow’s meeting at Newmarket.
After the fourth leg only a single ticket remained but the Betfair punter managed to get through to the last leg after Times Up won the Jockey Club Rose Bowl.
Agonisingly, the final unit, on Swiss Dream, couldn’t quite get to long time leader La Fortunata to deny the Betfair punter a payout of £896,127.
The rollover of £1,262,152 is the biggest in the history of the bet and tomorrow’s total pool is expected to surpass the largest ever pool of £2,308,852 at Haydock Park back in August of last year.
Totepool spokesman George Primarolo told Betrescue, “The totejackpot at Newmarket looks set to smash all records on Friday with not only the largest rollover in history up for grabs but it could also potentially create the biggest ever winner of the bet,”
Having staked just £2 on the bet, the current record totejackpot dividend came on 8th March this year when heating engineer Steve Whiteley landed £1,445,671 at Exeter .
The totejackpot was last won at Yarmouth on Tuesday 13th September and the bet itself was first launched at Royal Ascot back in 1966.
