Cash In With Amber Silk

Paul Ferguson has one selection for us today; Amber Silk (2.20, Good) and three horses to keep an eye on this week. Compare odds.

The opener at Goodwood on Tuesday is an interesting fillies’ maiden in which the front four in the betting hail from two decent looking races.

Specific and Defy The Odds showed promise (especially the former) behind the exciting Fallen For You at Newmarket, while Amber Silk (2:20) and Swingland chased home Gifted Girl here last month and the winner could be on course for the Fillies’ Mile next.

Charlie Hills’ daughter of Lawman was a real eye-catcher after being slowly into stride. She was keen enough, but moved up stylishly and was all dressed up with nowhere to go inside the final two furlongs.

Despite never being a threat to the winner, she ran on well to grab second inside the final furlong and will appreciate the longer trip.

The same can be said of Swingland, who also ran on well and finished close up in fourth. She too will relish the step up to a mile and this is a maiden that should be watched closely, as there are bound to be future winners to come out of it.

I’m signing off for my summer holiday today, so I’ll leave you with a trio of horses to keep an eye on while I’m away (all three are entered over the next 5 days).

Firstly, Kinglet who beat last Friday’s impressive maiden winner Most Improved on debut. The Kingmambo colt came from way off a slow pace to win that day and he ought to be up to winning at a much higher level. The Godolphin juvenile is entered at Salisbury on Thursday and at both Kempton and Haydock on Saturday.

Secondly, Firdaws who should really have won on debut for Roger Varian and holds entries in a maiden at Salisbury on Thursday and in a conditions event at Ascot. The Mr Greeley filly is also engaged in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile and is already high up in most ante-post lists for next year’s 1,000 Guineas and Oaks.

Finally, Tatispout who is officially rated 130 and she would be tough to beat in any novice hurdle this time of year. Charlie Longsdon’s dual winner is in at Stratford and Fontwell over the weekend.

I’ll be back mid-September, so enjoy the St Leger Festival at Doncaster where Blue Bunting should be very tough to keep out of the three in the final Classic of the season and looks an each-way bet to nothing at 4/1.

Tuesday’s selection:
2:20 Goodwood Amber Silk
