Paul Ferguson brings us 3 selections at York today; Blue Bunting (3.40), Wild Coco (4.15) and Deauville Flyer (4.50). Compare odds and bet.
After failing to handle the track at Epsom Blue Bunting (3:40) returned to winning ways in the Irish Oaks and she can follow up in the Yorkshire equivalent this afternoon, when she meets her elders for the first time.
Mahmood Al Zarooni’s Dynaformer filly only beat Banimpire, Wonder Of Wonders and Laughing Lashes in a finish of heads at the Curragh last time, but the ground and the Knavesmire’s long straight are in her favour today and she can confirm the form.
Sadly Snow Fairy won’t be running and won’t be making the market, which leaves course-specialist Crystal Capella to lay down the challenge, but in receipt of 10lbs and with the Al Zarooni stable in such good form, Frankie Dettori’s mount can take the prize and enhance her St Leger claims (she’s currently 10/1 for the final Classic of the season).
Another filly worthy of support on day two of the Ebor meeting is Wild Coco (4:15) who can bounce back in the Listed Galtres Stakes for Sir Henry Cecil and Tom Queally.
The Galileo filly didn’t appear to get home over 1m6f last time, while the ground was quicker than ideal and she also seemed ill at ease around Goodwood.
Back on a more conventional track, down in trip and back on an easier surface, she ought to be hard to beat, despite carrying a 6lb penalty.
Hawk Mountain won the concluding 2m handicap last year, in which Deauville Flyer (4:50) was sent off favourite, but John Quinn’s charge is much higher in the handicap now, whilst the selection is only 1lb higher.
He hasn’t won since scoring over course-and-distance last June, but Tim Easterby’s five-year-old shaped really well at Haydock in May, when he was unlucky in running in fourth, before finishing third to Tominator in the Northumberland Plate.
A respectable fourth in the competitive John Smith’s Silver Cup here last time, this represents a drop in class and he will appreciate the easy surface. He holds solid each-way claims under Kieren Fallon, who won on him at the 2010 Dante meeting.
Despite the long lay-off Sir Mark Prescott’s Tuscan Gold is another to consider in a wide-open affair.
Thursday’s selections:
3:40 York Blue Bunting (3/1 Hills)
4:15 York Wild Coco (5/2 Coral)
4:50 York Deauville Flyer (8/1 Boylesports)
