Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Sunday; Helium (3.15, South) and Rimth (3.30 Pont) Compare odds and bet.
There is no doubting the chances of Dever Dreamer in the Listed fillies’ contest at Pontefract this afternoon, but Rimth (3:30) was only just behind her at Goodwood and is a viable each-way alternative, even though she is worse off at the weights.
Paul Cole’s Oasis Dream filly has to carry a penalty today, but the Oak Tree Stakes was her first start since the French 1,000 Guineas and she finished fourth from a bad draw that day, being forced to race wide throughout.
Winner of the Fred Darling back in April, her two-year-old form was a cut above this grade and, if she has come on for that return, she may be up to the task despite the penalty. Trading at 6/1 on Saturday evening, she might well drift as there is likely to be support for the market leader.
There’s an interesting novice chase at Southwell and, whilst Dunowen Point in respected after his Cartmel win, it is worth taking him on with Helium (3:15) who was the better hurdler and receives 6lbs this afternoon.
Nick Gifford’s six-year-old was having his second start over fences when shaping with promise at Fontwell in June and that race has worked out well since. Winner Barizan won again last week, while Mister Matt, who was 30 lengths off Helium in third, won handicaps off 100 and 105 on his next two starts.
Sunday’s selections:
3:15 Southwell Helium
3:30 Pontefract Rimth
