Ambitious Paris Saint-Germain haven’t been French champions since 1994 but they tempt at 11/4 with Stan James to clinch Ligue 1 this time.
Lille were relatively emphatic champions in France last season, winning 21 of their 38 matches and losing just four times to clinch the title by eight points ahead of Marseille. However, the extent of their triumph hasn’t persuaded bookies that they can defend their crown and weakened by the loss of key figures Yohan Cabaye and Gervinho, they’re as high as 6/1 with to top the pile again, with three teams ahead of them in the betting.
Runners-up Marseille are one team expected to fare better than Lille, bet365 quoting them at 3/1 to build on last term and finish first while Lyon are quoted at 13/5 by Paddy Power to scoop an eighth championship in eleven seasons.
However, the team to follow this time around could be two-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who Stan James chalk up at an alluring 11/4 to bag a first title since 1994.
Antoine Kombouare’s men have been bought by the Qatar Investment Authority, who seem keen to back PSG financially, and the acquisition of highly-rated Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore is a clear signal of their ambition. The new owners will ultimately be seeking European glory but the best way to edge closer to that aim is to automatically qualify for the Champions League by winning their domestic title.
Marseille and Lyon should be their nearest challengers and a top three of PSG, Marseille and Lyon in that order is available at 9/1 with William Hill. Meanwhile, at the bottom, Dijon look a banker at 4/6 (Paddy Power) for the drop.
