A solid one-under-par second round of 69 took Martin Kaymer to the head of the betting to clinch the Open Championship at Royal St George’s. The German was cut to 13/2 by after reaching the tournament’s half-way stage just a single stroke off the lead.
Lucas Glover and Darren Clarke are just a shot ahead of Kaymer going in to day three and that pair can both be backed at 16/1, with Boylesports and Skybet respectively while Charl Schwartzel, who carded an impressive 67 to lie a couple behind the leaders, has been clipped to 12/1 by Betfred.
Pre-tournament favourite Rory McIlroy kept himself in contention, albeit several shots back and bookies aren’t taking any chances where the US Open champ is concerned, Totesport quoting him at 8/1 to land his second major and first round leader Thomas Bjorn, who is locked on three-under alongside Kaymer, is now trading at 25/1 with bet365.
Also on three-under meanwhile, is American Chad Campbell, rated at 28/1 by Sportingbet while Miguel Angel Jimenez is in the mix on 25/1 (Coral).
