Paul Ferguson heads to Ascot with two selections today; Poole Harbour (2.15) and Above Standard (5.10). Compare odds and bet
The July meeting continues at headquarters on Friday but, while the Cherry Hinton looks a cracking renewal, Ascot stages a more interesting card from a punting point of view with Above Standard (5:10) fancied to land the concluding Delancey Apprentice Handicap.
The Shamardal colt looked aptly named when shedding his maiden tag at Warwick a fortnight ago and an opening mark of 78 may underestimate him.
Matthew Lawson takes a handy 5lbs off and the young jockey is 2 from 8 (25%) aboard Barry Hills trained three-year-olds this season.
Hills saddles a well-bred newcomer in the opener, but he would have to be pretty smart indeed to roll over Poole Harbour (2:15) who ran a hugely promising race on debut back in May.
That Newbury maiden has worked out really well and the Elusive City colt will take the world of beating here if stepping forward.
It is stated that Hills’ runner will only run if the ground is suitable and, if he is pulled out the selection will probably be very short, in which case he is best watched with the future in mind.
Friday’s selection:
2:15 Ascot Poole Harbour
5:10 Ascot Above Standard
