Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Nahrain (4:15 Sandown) and Vita Nova (2:50 Haydock). Compare odds
Roger Varian has his string in top shape and he steps his unbeaten filly Nahrain (4:15) up to Listed company for the first time at Sandown this afternoon.
The Selkirk filly has won a Windsor maiden and a handicap at Haydock so far this season and she could hardly have created a deeper impression last time.
She needs to step forward again today, but the chestnut looks a Group class performer and the Evens on offer with the sponsors should be taken.
Another classy filly in the making is Vita Nova (2:50) and she can return to winning ways in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock.
Sir Henry Cecil’s four-year-old was hugely impressive on her seasonal reappearance at Newmarket in May, before losing her unbeaten record over this course-and-distance in the Listed Pinnacle Stakes.
Even though that race was lower in grade, it looked a stronger contest on paper and the daughter of Galileo went down by just a neck to another unexposed young filly, with 4½ lengths back to last year’s Oaks runner-up Meeznah.
Vita Nova was trading at a best priced 7/4 with Hills overnight.
Saturday’s selections:
2:50 Haydock Vita Nova (7/4 Hills)
4:15 Sandown Nahrain (Evs Coral)
