Live on SS2: Thu 15.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s US Open and fancies the chances of Donald, Toms, Goosen and Scott.
Tiger Woods misses his first US Open since turning pro in 1995 and he will of course be missed but this week at Congressional we have a Major where you could easily pick 20 Golfers and miss the winner.
Luke Donald is Ladbrokes 14/1 joint market leader with Lee Westwood. I think Donald has outstanding each way claims as he is playing the most consistent Golf in the world at present with Westwood not far behind him at as was shown in last months BMW Championship at Wentorth which Donald won in a playoff.
I like the chances of David Toms at a best price of 50/1 with Paddy Power this week he is playing some great Golf at present and would not be shy if getting into contention while Jim Furyk also available at 55/1 with Skybet is also often seen at his best on a US Open style set up.
Initial reports indicate this is going to be a brutal week for the Worlds leading players and par will be a great score.
With South Africans holding th Open and Masters Titles Ernie Els (80/1 William Hill) and Retief Goosen both former winners of US Open will have their supporters and Goosen at 66/1 at Ladbrokes is a huge price after a decent effort in last weeks St Jude Classic.
I have always thought Adam Scott had a Major in him and he did little wrong at Augusta in April in Masters and I think 60/1 with Totesport is worth a bet.The US Open should provide great drama and any score under par may be enough to be crowned Champion.
It’s also worth noting that Boylesports are paying 6 each way places at 1/4 the odds.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
