Coral bookmakers today laid a bet of £2000 at 12/1 against Lee Westwood winning The Open and cut him into 10/1 to win his first major at Royal St Georges in July.
The Ryder Cup star has yet to win one of the big four tournaments but has come close on a number of occasions.
“Westwood’s first major win is surely only a matter of time, and with a fourth, third and then a second place finish last year, our punter obviously feels the Open this year could be his stage,” Coral spokesman Gary Burton told betrescue.com
Tiger Woods remains the clear 5-1 favourite with Coral, despite withdrawing from the US Open next week.
