St Nicholas Abbey has been cut to 12/1 (from 16/1) for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe by totesport following his last-gasp victory in this afternoon’s Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom.
Aidan O’Brien’s colt was struggling coming down Tattenham Corner as Midday forged to the lead and it looked as if Henry Cecil’s mare had the race in the bag as they passed the two furlong pole.
However, Ryan Moore’s mount responded well to his riders urgings once pulled out wide to challenge and got up in the shadows of the post to record a length victory.
“Given the fact that St Nicholas Abbey was all at sea round Tattenham Corner, this wasn’t a bad performance from Aidan O’Brien’s colt and his defeat of the top-class Midday bodes well for the rest of the season,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
Carlton House is the 9/4 favourite for the Investec Derby ahead of tomorrow’s classic but Recital has now deposed Pour Moi as second-favourite and is a 4/1 shot behind the Queen’s colt in the market.
Recital also heads totesport’s special ‘Coolmore Classic’ market at 7/4 ahead of Pour Moi at 2/1. The Wigan-based firm have also priced up a market based on which Derby trial provides the winner at Epsom and make the Dante Stakes the 11/8 favourite.
It’s 3/1 that the winner comes from the Prix Greffulhe in which Pour Moi beat Vadamar whilst the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial is a 7/2 shot. It’s 4/1 that the winner had his prep in any other race.
Looking ahead to Royal Ascot in just under a fortnight’s time, both Dance And Dance and Start Right have been cut for the Royal Hunt Cup after finishing first and third respectively in the Investec Mile at Epsom this afternoon. The former is now the 10/1 second-favourite (from 16/1) with totesport behind 9/1 jolly Green Destiny whilst the latter is a 12/1 chance (from 16/1).
