Live on Skysports 1: Fri 10.00: England’s buoyant cricketers are 4/6 with Totesport to defeat Sri Lanka in the Second Test at Lords.
A combination of rain interruptions and solid first innings batting meant that a draw looked inevitable as the First Test between England and Sri Lanka petered out on the final day. However, a devastating spell from the hosts on Monday in Cardiff saw them blow the tourists away as they took eight wickets in just over an hour to record an unlikely victory by an innings and 14 runs.
Subsequently, having opened up a 1-0 lead, England are just 1/12 at best with William Hill to win the three-match series and buoyed by their success at Sophia Gardens, Andrew Strauss’ troops are also odds-on, at 4/6 with Totesport, to build on that success to win the Second Test, which gets under way at Lords on Friday.
It’s been a cracking week for England batsman Jonathan Trott who was named by the ECB as cricketer of the year this week, shortly after smashing an impressive double ton in the First Test and he’s quoted at 7/2 by bet365 to again top score with the bat for the home side, although the consistent Ian Bell – also a centurion in Cardiff – isn’t without appeal at 6/1 courtesy of .
James Anderson suffered a side injury in the opener and misses the Second Test but it was Chris Tremlett and Graeme Swann with four wickets apiece that did the damage in Monday’s second innings and those two could battle it out to be the top bowler at Lords. Swann is Stan James’ 9/4 favourite in that market but with Sri Lanka struggling to cope with the short ball in their second innings last time out, Tremlett might be worth an interest at 7/2 (William Hill).
