Carlton House has been eased to 13/8 by totesport at the head of the Investec Derby following a turbulent day in the market.
Reports filtered through at lunchtime that the Queen’s colt had suffered a minor setback which was later confirmed by Her Majesty’s racing manager John Warren. He explained that though the Derby favourite had sustained a minor injury, they were still confident he would line-up at Epsom on Saturday.
Consequently, there have been a number of horses cut in the market by totesport who are offering non-runner no bet on the race. The Aidan O’Brien-trained pair of Recital and Seville have been cut to 9/2 and 6/1 respectively (from 6/1 and 7/1) whilst Native Khan is now a 9/1 shot (from 12/1).
“With all the uncertainty surrounding Carlton House, it was inevitable that his price would drift and though connections are still confident he’ll make the race, both punters and bookmakers are treading carefully at the moment,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
Looking ahead to Royal Ascot in a fortnight’s time, Rite Of Passage has been supported to win his second Ascot Gold Cup on the trot and is now the 3/1 second-favourite (from 7/2) with totesport behind the 5/2 jolly Fame And Glory.
