Live on Skysports 1: Sun 18.30: Ireland are evens (Betfred) to win the Nations Cup decider but Scotland could cause an upset.
As both teams have registered two wins from their two games, Ireland and Scotland’s Nations Cup clash in Dublin is the tournament decider. Aided by home advantage, Giovanni Trapattoni’s men are Betfred’s even money favourites while post 14/5 against the Scots and Totesport offer 12/5 for the spoils to be shared.
Simply avoiding defeat (2/7, Stan James) will be enough for the hosts to win the competition outright as they have a better goal difference than Craig Levein’s troops and bookies fancy them on the basis that they are on home soil and on the back of a 5-0 rout of neighbours Northern Ireland.
However, their opponents fielded a young and inexperienced line-up in that one whereas Scotland have a strong squad to choose from and in addition, a solid second half performance against Wales will have given the visitors plenty of confidence.
The Scots can make life difficult for the Irish then and could even play with a little more intensity given that the hosts have half an eye on the more important matter of next weekend’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Macedonia and subsequently, the value marginally lies with Levein’s charges at a big price, although the cautious may prefer Paddy Power’s 15/8 posted against Scotland ‘Draw No Bet’.
