Alan Thomson, the former Racing Editor at the Daily Record, picks five to follow on Saturday at Haydock, Newmarket and Beverley. Selections
REGAL PARADE (3.35) has the feature Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock at his mercy on Saturday. Dandy Nicholls’ consistent seven-year-old made Delegator pull out the stops in the Group 1 Duke Of York Stakes at the Dante fixture and drops into Group 3 company here over an extra furlong. Regal Parade has a preference for some ease in the ground and the track shouldn’t be too lively for him after watering. He showed his liking for Haydock when scooping the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup last September.
Tom Dascombe is on a hot streak and RHYTHM OF LIGHT (4.10) did well to reel in Sure Route at Newbury a fortnight ago after a troubled passage. The handicapper has slapped an 11lb burden on him but that may not anchor Rhythm Of Light’s attempt to follow up.
At Newmarket, trailblazing LEXI’S HERO (3.25) may be hard to catch. He scorched from the stalls to score at Chester and, with the Kevin Ryan yard enjoying a purple patch, Eddie Ahern will surely employ similar catch-me-if-you-can tactics.
TROVARE (5.45) is a real Newmarket specialist on quick ground, scoring twice at HQ last summer for Amanda Perrett. The four-year-old again showed his liking for the track when finishing third to shock winner Yorgunnabelucky two weeks ago and he will be sent off an each-way price in a competitive staying handicap.
DESTINY OF A DIVA (2.45) caused an upset at Leicester last month when turning over hotpot Hong Kong Island and the handicapper hasn’t been harsh in assessing him only 4lb higher in the opener at Beverley.
Tally Ho
