Live on SS2 & 3: Thu 10.30 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s BMW PGA and Byron Nelson and picks his bets.
Luke Donald had a great chance to go to World Number 1 on Sunday but missed out losing to Ian Poulter in the final of the Volvo World Matchplay in Spain.
12 months ago Luke Donald should have won the BMW Championship at Wentworth before losing out to shock winner Simon Khan but he bounced back to win in Spain the following week. Since then Donald has played some sublime golf and at 15/2 (Betfred), with 6 Places each way, Donald is the season’s best each way bet so far as I expect him to be in the mix on Sunday and gain the title that should have been his last year.
I respect the chances of Paul Casey at 30/1 (Boylesports) and Ross Fisher at 33/1 (Ladbrokes) and both should give backers a decent run while I am still amazed Oliver Wilson has not yet won on Tour but at 150/1 this week with Paddy Power, I have played each way 1/4 odds first 6 – a juicy 37/1 is just too tempting for the place.
Matt Kuchar, at 22/1 with Sportingbet, is my selection in the Byron Nelson, a high quality event Stateside.
Jason Day is a winner in the waiting In the USA and I feel he is worth sticking with over next few weeks, he is 16/1 at bet365 this week and should be backed in a trans-Atlantic each way double with Luke Donald at Wentworth.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
