Paul Ferguson has two selections for us today on Friday, both from Haydock; Man Of Gold (2.30) and Mijhaar (5.00). Compare odds
This afternoon’s two selections once again come from Haydock, beginning with Man Of Gold (2:30) in the opening extended 1m2f handicap.
John Gosden’s Sadler’s Wells cot is beautifully bred, being a full-brother to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday, and he begins life in handicap company on what looks a workable mark of 74.
Last term he beat Parlour Games at Yarmouth and the runner-up went on to beat Ittirad (ran well off 80 at York last week) at Nottingham, before winning an all-weather handicap off 79.
The selection has missed engagements due to quick ground recently, so it is hoped that the Merseyside track comes in for some overnight rain.
Later on the card Mijhaar (5:00) can land the second division of the maiden over the same trip, hopefully at a more realistic price than yesterday’s two winners (apologies about that, they weren’t trading anywhere near as short on the exchanges on Wednesday evening).
Roger Varian’s Shirocco colt, who holds an entry in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, ran a race full of promise on his sole start to date at Newbury last backend.
Runner-up to the useful Fulgur (placed off 83 on Saturday) that day, he was a non-runner at Newbury last weekend due to the going and would, therefore, also appreciate any give in the ground.
Friday’s selections:
2:30 Haydock Man Of Gold
5:00 Haydock Mijhaar
