Live on BBC1: Sat & Sun 13.00: As long as Sebastien Vettel can get onto pole, he has history on his side to win the Spanish GP.
In the last 20 years of the Spanish GP at Catalunya, 16 winners have won from pole position and this trend has not been broken for the last decade.
Sebastien Vettel then has a great chance of winning a fourth race of the season, Ladbrokes making him 10/11 fav to take maximum points. If he qualifies on pole, just an 8/15 chance with Betfred, his odds will surely shorten.
Optimists are hoping the new tyres and DRS changes will have as big an impact on this race as they have on the previous four races of the season but the chances are quite slim, due to the nature of the Spanish course.
One man who can make a serious challenge to Vettel is his teammate Mark Webber. The Australian has registered finishes of fifth, fourth, third and second so far and Sportingbet make him 6/1 to add a first place. The same firm say 11/2 he will snatch pole and he will probably need it to win.
Skybet, however, offer a rather decent 4/5 that Webber finishes on the podium and Betfred an outstanding 3/1 about a fastest race lap coming from the Red Bull man, something he has managed for the last three races.
Home favourite Fernando Alonso has always seemed to try too hard in front of his adoring fans and is unlikely to repeat his 2006 win, a 7/1 chance with Ladbrokes. Blue Square’s 5/4 for him to finish on the podium could be worth considering but it will be congested with the likes of Hamilton, Button and Massa hanging about.
The McLaren challenge is led by Lewis Hamilton, he is 11/2 to win (Totesport) and his teammate Jenson Button is unfancied at 18/1 (Betdaq). A McLaren win is 10/3 with Coral but the Red Bulls should have a firm grip on this race, leaving the rest to fight it out for scraps.
