World Domination – winner of his only maiden start at Newbury last month – now heads the betting with William Hill for the 2011 Derby following the news that his stable-mate Frankel is almost certain not to line-up for the Epsom race.
The Qipco 2000 Guineas winner – previously quoted as a 6/4 (with a run) chance with Hills was today given a red-light for the middle-distance Classic after handler Henry Cecil revealed that he and owner Khallid Abdullah were in agreement that the colt should abstain from trying the mile-and-a-half trip at present.
The son of Galileo now looks set to line-up at the Royal Meeting in the opening day’s St James’s Palace House over the one-mile distance, leaving World Domination (4/1 fav) clear of Carlton House (11-2) in the Derby betting order.
Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: “The news of Frankel’s likely absence turns the Derby from a cloudy picture to a real betting heat. The betting reflects the openness of this year’s renewal and the forthcoming trials will prove extremely telling as to who might prevail at Epsom.’’
