Paul Ferguson has two selections at Newmarket for us on Sunday; Havant (15:15) and Izzy Top (5.00). Compare odds
Sunday’s Qipco 1,000 Guineas looks a really competitive renewal and, though she has been weak in the market over the past few days, I’m sticking with Havant (3:15) who won both starts at Newmarket at two.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Oh So Sharp winner has raced exclusively on easy ground to date and the trainer has expressed reservations about really quick ground.
Despite these negatives, I’m prepared to side with her at the prices as I think the daughter of Halling could well be something special this season.
If the ground is very quick, the one I’d be most worried about would be Richard Hannon’s Memory, who could easily bounce back from her disappointing run in the Moyglare Stud Stakes last August.
Another filly I think has a very bright future this season is Windsor maiden winner Izzi Top (5:00) who can land the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes for John Gosden.
The Pivotal filly is rated only 84, so the trainer had the option of going down the handicap route and the fact he sends her down the Oaks trial route would make you believe connections think a lot of her.
Beautifully bred, William Buick’s mount is a general 33/1 shot for Classic glory at Epsom in June and she could be a fair bit shorter come Sunday evening.
Sunday’s selections:
3:15 Newmarket: Havant
5:00 Newmarket: Izzi Top
