Denman’s defeat in the Totesport Bowl prevented an opening three race hat-trick of wins for Paul Nicholls, Ruby Walsh and favourite backers at Aintree today, but the defeat of the Gold Cup runner-up was the only bright spot for the layers on a day when punters enjoyed a fruitful day.
“We took on Big Buck’s, Zarkander and Denman, and so the loudest cheers when Nacarat won the third race came from the bookies. However our relief was short-lived, as favourite backers got back to winning ways with Baby Run in the Foxhunters, there was a huge market move for Silk Drum, and Wishfull Thinking was another well-backed winner. By the time Russian War won the last at 16-1, most punters were too busy celebrating to care!” said Coral’s David Stevens.
“Punters have started Aintree as they left off at Cheltenham, and with the biggest betting day of the year just around the corner, we’ll be hoping for a repeat of Mon Mome’s 100-1 big race win!” added Stevens.
