Aintree’s official betting partner totesport make The Midnight Club a 9/4 shot to be sent off favourite for Saturday’s Grand National after opening their market on who will head the market for the big race.
Willie Mullins’ gelding has been favourite for the National since Ruby Walsh decided to ride him but with millions of pounds yet to be bet on the race, he’s not certain to head the market on the day.
What A Friend is next in the market at 4/1 whilst last year’s winner Don’t Push It is an 11/2 shot alongside Backstage.
“The Ruby factor means that The Midnight Club will definitely be popular on the day but every year there’s a National gamble that takes the bookies by surprise and the market could well have a very different look about it come the off,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
The Midnight Club remains the 8/1 favourite for the John Smith’s Grand National with totesport but both Backstage and What A Friend have hardened in the market behind him and are now 11/1 joint-favourites apiece (from 12/1). Oscar Time has also been cut to 12/1 (from 14/1) whilst Character Building is a 25/1 shot (from 33s).
totesport will also be going non-runner, no bet on the John Smith’s Grand National from 9.30am tomorrow morning.
