City Slickers To Sink Sunderland

Live on Skysports 1: Sun 13.30 & 16.00: Man City, at 8/15 with Stan James, and Fulham both look set to pick up home wins in Sunday’s Premiership games.

Manchester City are looking to tighten their grip on a Champions League place as they welcome Sunderland to Eastlands and bookies are confident that Roberto Mancini’s men can collect a crucial three points to remain in the driving seat in terms of clinging on to a top four berth.

City are strong favourites at 8/15 with Stan James while Sunderland are as high as 7.5 (13/2) courtesy of Betdaq to end a six-match winless streak and post 16/5 against the draw. The Black Cats upset the odds in their last away match, nicking a point at the Emirates against Arsenal and some may fancy them to do so again but a lack of goals could be their undoing.

Steve Bruce’s men have failed to score in their last three and they come up against a City defence that has conceded just one goal in eight home games across all competitions. Admittedly, Mancini will be without a trio of key defenders in Micah Richards, Jerome Boateng and Kolo Toure but they nevertheless have more than enough quality at the back to nullify the visitors and ensure another clean sheet (21/20, Totesport).

Punters sensing a home win can therefore boost the odds by backing a victory ‘to nil’ for City at 7/5 with Paddy Power and more specifically Betfred price the hosts at 6/1 to grab the game’s only goal.

At 10/3 with Coral to break the deadlock and 4/6 (Ladbrokes) to strike at any stage, danger man Carlos Tevez is hardly a money-spinner so instead punters could consider risking a few quid on the craft of David Silva unlocking the Sunderland defence. The Spanish midfielder is a 6/1 shot at Partybets to open the scoring and Sportingbet quote Silva at 9/5 to find the net.

At 4/7 with William Hill Fulham are also primed to register a home win as they entertain faltering Blackpool. The Cottagers are in decent shape on their own patch, where they have won four out of five in the league while the Seasiders, bet365’s 5/1 outsiders, have lost four of their last five on the road and that trend for both teams looks set to continue today.

Mark Hughes’ team have been solid defensively at Craven Cottage lately and like Hughes’ former club, City, Fulham can prevail without conceding, a result rated by Partybets at a tempting 2/1.
