Paul Ferguson goes to Lingfield Park on MOnday afternoon for today’s selection – Mudita Moment at 5pm.
Trainer Anna Brooks only has a small string but in Mudita Moment (5:00) she has a smart young horse on her hands and the six-year-old is worth siding with on his handicap debut at Lingfield this afternoon.
The son of Heron Island has been on my radar ever since he finished third on his rules debut in a Kempton bumper last February. Beaten just 5½ lengths by Prince Of Pirates and Friday’s festival winner Bobs Worth, he had Arkle winner Captain Chris back in fourth and belied his odds of 66/1.
He shaped reasonably well in fourth at Hereford the following month and was thrown in the deep end behind Chablais at Kempton on his hurdles debut in January, where he again shaped well for a long way.
That comment also applies to his last two starts, when fifth to Cucumber Run at Hereford and to Raya Star in a decent race at Doncaster last month. His last effort was his most encouraging to date over hurdles and he looks ready to strike.
A mark of 100 isn’t harsh for this handicap debut and, with the trip and ground likely to suit, he could well get off the mark at the fourth time of asking.
