The Cheltenham Festival has been Ireland’s, with the Emerald contingent set on smashing 2006’s record of 10 winners over four days.
After a Wednesday whitewash was narrowly denied when failing to land the Champion Bumper, William Hill go 8-11 that Ireland will supercede their superb scoreline on St Patrick’s Day and bag a duo of winners to take them to eleven.
Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’Cheltenham has been painted green today, and whilst Thursday has traditionally been a Brit-fest, such is the Irish domination that they are odds-on to make it a winning-most Festival on St Patrick’s Day.’’
Ireland’s best chances on Thursday include Loosen my Load and Noble Prince in the opening Jewson Novices’ Chase, a quartet of chances for Willie Mullins with Sivota (Pertemps), J’y Vole (Ryanair Chase) and Mourad and Fiveforthree (World Hurdle) and Gordon Elliot’s joint 7-1 favourite Beautiful Sound in the Byrne Group Plate.
