Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Thursday, Robin Will (2.30 Wincanton) and Silver Kate (3.00 Wincanton).
Maiden Robin Will (2:30) has always been held in high regard by Paul Nicholls and, though his form figures hardly inspire confidence, he is worth taking a chance on as he ventures in to handicap company for the first time at Wincanton on Thursday.
The six-year-old travels powerfully through his races, so the drop back in trip should suit, and a mark of 116 may underestimate his natural ability.
The four-runner novices’ chase should go the way of smart mare Silver Kate (3:00) who can complete the hat-trick despite the fact that she would be ideally suited by softer ground.
The trip should be right up her street and the daughter of Insan, who holds no entries at the Cheltenham Festival, could book her ticket to Aintree here. Whatever happens to her this afternoon, keep her in the notebook for the Welsh National next Christmas as she relishes a trip on heavy ground and has a cracking record at Chepstow.
Thursday’s selections:
