In League One, Carlisle (11/2, bet365) will hope to upset Brighton’s (4/7, Betdaq) title push by at least getting the ball in the net.
It used to be that Brunton Park was where Carlisle did their best work and very few teams returned from Cumbria with anything to show for their efforts, however of late Greg Abbott’s side have been less than convincing on their own patch while by contrast, they’ve won three in a row on the road to give themselves an outside chance of gate-crashing the play-offs.
This week Carlisle head to league leaders Brighton, who are unbeaten on home soil this season and it’s the Seagulls that are strong favourites at 1.57 (4/7) with Betdaq. However, at such a slender price they’re a touch risky despite their record at the Withdean Stadium, given that the Cumbrians registered a 3-1 triumph at play-off chasing Charlton in midweek.
Of course, the strength of Gus Poyet’s men at home means that you’d have to take a huge leap of faith to fancy a flutter on Carlisle at 11/2 (bet365) but we think Abbott’s charges can cause the hosts at least a bit of trouble by getting on the scoresheet. Subsequently, the pick of the bets on the south coast is arguably William Hill’s 10/11 for both teams to find the net.
Seven of Rochdale’s last nine matches, including obviously Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Walsall, have produced two goals or less while the scorers have only been troubled twice in MK Dons’ last three matches. The pair can’t be expected to serve up a goal feast then at Spotland, where Ladbrokes offer odds of 9/10 for the match to produce fewer than 2.5 goals.
Southampton were odds-on favourites for victory at struggling Walsall in midweek but the Saddlers edged it at a huge price at the Bescot Stadium. Bookies however, haven’t learned their lesson and Colchester are subsequently also overpriced as they host the Saints.
The U’s are available at 11/4 with 888Sport despite lurking on the fringe of the play-off places, with only two home defeats blotting their record and John Ward’s men, on the back of four consecutive victories at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, are a cracking bet to see off a Southampton team with as many away defeats as wins.
