Kauto Star has been cut to 8/1 (from 10/1) by Totesport for the Cheltenham Gold Cup as punters begin to overlook his disappointing run in the King George VI Chase last weekend.
Paul Nicholls’ revelation that the horse has been suffering from a ‘low grade infection’ has seen support for the two-time Gold Cup winner as he aims to bounce back to make it a hat-trick in the Cheltenham showpiece. As a result of this support, Imperial Commander has eased at the head of the market to 7/2 (from 3/1).
“Kauto Star’s King George performance has polarised opinion but punters clearly thought the 10/1 represented value as he’s been well-supported for the Gold Cup since he was found to be suffering from an infection,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Master Minded will face eight rivals in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot for which he is the 4/7 favourite with totesport. Somersby is next in the market at 8/1 and also heads the market without the favourite at 7/2.
King Fontaine and Maktu have been installed as the 11/2 joint-favourites for the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock on Saturday by totesport with Becauseicouldntsee and Buffalo Bob both at 13/2.
The Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Chase and the BHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle are the highlights of a cracking card at Leopardstown on Sunday and Quel Esprit and Realt Dubh head totesport’s market for the former at 10/3 whilst Hurricane Fly is the 1/2 favourite to win his fourth Grade 1 hurdle on the bounce.
