Paul Ferguson has two more tips for today’s racing; first up is Bear’s Affair (2.30 Sout), followed by Knockdolian (2.40 Folk).
Nicky Henderson suffered a short price failure at Fakenham yesterday, but Bear’s Affair (2:30) can recoup losses for followers of the in-form yard at Southwell on Tuesday.
The Presenting gelding looked a really smart prospect when beating Champion Court in a Uttoxeter bumper in October and the runner-up franked the form by landing a Grade 2 on his hurdles debut at Cheltenham.
The selection looks an exciting recruit to the novice hurdle ranks and it will be disappointing if he can’t maintain his 100% career record here.
If Folkestone passes a 6:30am inspection Mr Muddle is likely to be difficult to beat in the juvenile hurdle, having shown promise in both starts over timber to date.
However, he flopped badly on the AW last week and, as he is likely to be sent off pretty short here, it may be worth taking a chance on Knockdolian (2:40).
Flat trainer Roger Charlton threw his son of Montjeu in at the deep end on debut, when he ran better the bare form would suggest at Newbury.
Though visibility was poor that day, it was clear that he was still moving well leaving the back straight and he was badly hampered at the first flight in the home straight.
Third home, Mark Twain, won next time and A Media Luz (second) would have won but for falling on Saturday and this represents a big drop in class.
