Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on a chilly Monday; Henry King (3.15 Taunton) and Pateese (3.25 Towcester).
Towcester is bound to be a test of stamina on Monday and that ought to suit Pateese (3:25) who can score at the third time of asking over hurdles.
Philip Hobbs’ French import looked in need of the run on debut at Exeter in November and took a huge step forward when third to Minella Class at Newbury last month.
The winner franked the form on Saturday and this looks a nice opportunity for the six-year-old to get off the mark.
There are plenty of interesting young novices on show at Taunton, but the horse that catches my eye on the card is Henry King (3:15) who looks worth a small investment at a decent price.
He’s failed to complete on three of his last four starts, which hardly inspires confidence, but he is back over hurdles and remains on a mark from which he can win.
Victor Dartnall has his string in top form, saddling a double on Saturday, as well as Giles Cross finishing runner-up in the Welsh National. The trainer has always held this son of Great Palm in high regard.
Monday’s selections:
3:15 Taunton Henry King
3:25 Towcester Pateese
