Paul Ferguson has another selection for us on Wednesday from Chepstow: Golden Chieftain (14.50), EP 7/2.
Though he has almost 10 lengths to make up Mic’s Delight from their meeting in a Kempton bumper in February, Golden Chieftain (2:50) is of great interest on his hurdling debut at Chepstow on Tuesday.
Bought for £54,000 at the Doncaster Sales last year, Colin Tizzard’s five-year-old was a keen sort last term, but ran a blinder at the track on his seasonal return, when runner-up to Kartanian, who has since run well in Listed company at Cheltenham (finished third to Rock On Ruby who also beat the selection last season).
His bumper former reads well and he has always looked the type to come in to his own when upped in trip and faced with obstacles.
