Although he has been off the track for a while, I’m taking a chance on Beyond The Clouds (3:00) under top-weight at Stratford on Tuesday.
Formerly trained by Kevin Ryan, he ran on the Flat last year, before owner Rob Alpin paid 48,000gns to secure him last October. The last time we saw him over hurdles, the seven-year-old was sent off just 13-2 for the 2018 Scottish Champion Hurdle, and he has since been dropped 7lbs. Prior to that, he beat Simply The Betts (a winner over fences at the Cheltenham Festival in March) when he was conceding 8lbs to the runner-up, and conditions ought to suit.
Assuming that he is wound up for this return (held an entry on 1 July, so you would hope that he is ready) he could go well under Aidan Coleman, who rode a double at Market Rasen yesterday, and I’m hoping that he is over-looked in the market.
