Coolbane Boy looks a nice type for Liam Burke, but he might have to pay second fiddle in the maiden hurdle at Gowran on Monday, where METICULOUS (1:30) is sure to be tough to beat.
Joseph O’Brien’s well-bred six-year-old made a winning racecourse debut at Killarney two years ago (almost to the day), after which he ran well in Grade 2 company, and also finished eighth in the Champion Bumper (I remember him looking an absolute picture in the paddock that day). Highly-tried over hurdles last season, he will find this much easier and should strike under J J Slevin.
