Paul Ferguson has two selections from Tipperary for us on Friday; Shanroe at 2.00 and Hallowed Star at 4.05. Compare odds and bet.
Tipperary stages a decent jumps card on Friday, where the feature is the Grade 3 Grimes Hurdle, which looks to be a very strong renewal, and is often a good guide towards the Galway Hurdle.
Later on the card, Shanroe (2:00) is interesting on handicap debut, having won on the Flat just last week. Formerly a smart bumper horse (won three times in England, after finishing behind Floressa on debut), he was a warm order when brought down on his hurdling debut at Catterick, before running in competitive maiden hurdles in Ireland (also took his chance in the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer behind Andy Dufresne). He might have found the ground too soft at times, and showed his well-being when staying on strongly to win a Limerick maiden over an extended 1m4f. An opening mark over hurdles of 109 makes him interesting, on this sounder surface, and I am hoping he might be over-looked in the early market.
Similar comments apply to Hallowed Star (4:05) in the concluding bumper, who should also appreciate the better ground. Shark Hanlon’s five-year-old dropped away when last of five at Down Royal a year ago, but stepped forward when third in a decent Stratford bumper, on the eve of the Cheltenham Festival. He travelled well for Brian Hughes that day, whilst leaving the impression that the ground was on the soft side.
