Slowly away in the Irish Guineas last week Monarch of Egypt (2:25) will need to break better in this afternoon’s Jersey Stakes, but if he does, he has the class to go very close.
He has raced exclusively in Group 1 company since last August, and following a winning debut over 5f at Naas, he twice chased home Siskin. He finished strongly last Friday (having travelled well) and dropping to a stiff 7f shouldn’t be too much of an issue, especially on slightly slower ground.
He was being backed at the time of writing (7-1 into 5s in places) and warrants each-way support in this Group 3.
