Given the impression he made on his racecourse debut at Wolverhampton in December, WALDKONIG (3:00) is fancied to defy his inexperience in the Listed Newmarket Stakes on Saturday.
A Kingman half-brother to Arc winner Waldgeist, he cost 600,000gns as yearling and swept wide to score impressively on debut, despite showing considerable signs of greenness (hung on the bend). The step up in distance should suit and it will be disappointing if he can’t make it two-from-two here.
