Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Friday; Swindler in the Newmarket 1.50 and English King in the 3.15 at Lingfield.. Compare odds and bet.
Impressive when shedding his maiden tag at Newcastle last November, English King (3:15) is fancied to win the Listed Derby Trial at Lingfield on Friday.
Having made an encouraging debut at Newmarket the previous month, the Camelot colt relished the longer distance and stretched right away in the closing stages. Bred to appreciate even further, this longer trip should be right up his street, and he looks a really nice middle-distance prospect.
The same connections (Ed Walker and Bjorn Nielsen) might well be looking for an across-the-card double by the time English King runs, as Swindler (1:50) is another with sound claims in the Betway Handicap at Newmarket.
Twice a winner at Ascot last season, he looked to win with a bit to spare when last seen, and that form has since worked out well, with the fourth winning the Ayr Silver Trophy and the second winning a Listed race at Jebel Ali. An unexposed sprinter with more to offer, he won on reappearance last season and won’t mind the likely quick ground.
The owner also has dual Gold Cup winner Stradivarius in action on Friday, with the three-time Royal Ascot winner reappearing in the Coronation Cup. This is the first time that he will have run over 1m4f since he was beaten in a handicap at Chester in May 2017 (I managed to get him beat off 90 that day), however, and you would assume that this race is being used as a prep for Ascot.
Friday’s selections:
1:50 Newmarket – Swindler; 7/2 bet365
3:15 Lingfield – English King; 4/1 bet365
