Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Monday; December Second in the Newcastle 5.05. Compare odds and bet.
With racing returning, it is nice to back and it is very much hoped that all of our regular readers (and their families) are keeping healthy and well during this difficult period.
Newcastle’s 10-race card gets underway at 1pm, but we have to wait for race eight for today’s selection, with December Second (5:05) worthy of each-way support in the extended 1m4f handicap.
The winner of two bumpers (also finished sixth in the Grade 1 at Punchestown 13 months ago), Philip Kirby’s six-year-old finished third on his first three starts after switching codes, but bounded clear to score impressively over this sort of trip at Haydock last August. That form isn’t particularly strong, but the runner-up performed with respect in defeat afterwards, and conditions look right for this return to action. Despite a 10lbs rise and facing stiffer opposition, he is worth chancing at double-figure odds.
Of that opposition, Alignak is an obvious threat, given the impression he made when bolting up at Kempton last September. The third has franked that form (won both subsequent starts earlier this year) and after just four starts, Sir Michael Stoute’s Sea The Moon colt has the scope to improve considerably. He is greatly respect, but is priced up accordingly.
