Live on Skysports 2: Sun 12.00: Andy Murray is an 11/2 shot (Totesport) for this year’s ATP World Finals and he opens the event in London.
Murray faces Robin Soderling in the opening match at the O2 Arena on Sunday and he is 4/5 (Coral) fav to get off to a winning start. Soderling, last year’s semi finalist, is 11/10 at bet365 and is just on the edge of representing good value.
Soderling comes into this on a high after winning the BNP Paribas Masters about 10 days ago and should not be considered lightly at all. Murray can claim ‘home’ turf advantage but so did Gael Monfils in Paris and that didn’t deter Soderling. Soderling to win 2-1 is a 4/1 chance at Stan James while the Swede is 9/1 at 888sport to win outright.
In the other opening day’s match, Roger Federer is a short 1/6 to beat David Ferrer (Betdaq) and the Swiss giant is the 5/2 fav at William Hill to win the Finals. Federer has not made the final of this event since 2007 but brings some decent form. Ferrer has had a fine 2010 but represents the 40/1 outsider (Sportingbet) at the competition and in a group including the 3 afforementioned players, will find the going tough.
Rafa Nadal is the 10/3 2nd fav (William Hill) but his lack of recent match time is an interest as is the fact he has never made a final and has 2 semi final appearances (06 and 07) to his name. Djokovic is 9/2 at Bodog while Andy Roddick, in his 8th consecutive finals, is a tempting 22/1 at Coral and if he really brings his game, could win Group A at 6/1 with Sportingbet.
Thomas Berdych makes up the betting at 33’s (Totesport) and the Czech may struggle here, especially after a weak 2nd half to 2010.
