Middlesbrough can get back to winning ways against a wayward Millwall and William Hill are offering even money about The Boro.
Middlesbrough’s revival was short-lived, Tony Mowbray’s men following back-to-back wins with a deserved defeat at Swansea, but Boro shouldn’t be too downbeat about the result given that few teams will get anything at the Liberty Stadium, where the Swans have conceded just twice.
Mowbray’s charges head back to the Riverside this weekend and they look well placed to get back on track with a victory against freefalling Millwall. We mentioned last week that the Lions looked vulnerable at home to struggling Sheffield United and sure enough the Blades registered a 1-0 win; subsequently, on the basis of that match, there’s little reason to believe Kenny Jackett’s men are about to arrest a slump that has seen them win just twice in 13 league games and a more solid-looking Boro can ensure Milwall’s slide continues.
Nevertheless, Middlesbrough aren’t reliable enough to appeal at the odds-on quotes peppering the market and they’re only worth considering at the evens on offer with William Hill.
Derby are the Championship’s top home scorers having struck 20 times in eight games at Pride Park and they can manage at least another couple as they host Scunthorpe. The Iron meanwhile, have won an impressive five out of eight on the road and will fancy themselves to find the net too, so 888Sport’s 4/6 for both teams to get on the scoresheet looks pretty safe.
However, those seeking something a little meatier might want to risk backing a goal glut given the likelihood that the two sides will contribute to the tally and cater for those punters by marking 7/4 against the match generating four or more goals.
Things could be looking up a touch for Hull, who followed up a decent draw at Leeds by landing a maximum haul in last Friday’s televised clash at Preston. The Tigers still have plenty of room for improvement and indeed they’ve suffered three straight defeats at home but they can arrest that run as they entertain Ipswich, who arrive having lost five of their last seven games.
Nigel Pearson’s men are defensively sound at the KC Stadium and although they don’t score many, they can edge a low-scoring affair, a result Stan James quote at 6/4.
Finally, Sheffield United recorded a much-needed victory at Millwall last weekend but that shouldn’t distract from the problems the Blades have at Bramall Lane, where they have been beaten five times in eight games and scored only six goals.
Gary Speed’s charges look far from a home banker then as they welcome fellow strugglers Crystal Palace and as George Burley’s side have managed two wins in two, albeit at Selhurst Park, and grabbed six goals in their last three matches on the road, they could get a result in South Yorkshire.
Of course, given the Eagles’ away record, only the bold would back them at 11/4 (Paddy Power) to snare maximum points but bet365’s 13/8 posted against the visitors in the ‘Draw No Bet’ market isn’t without appeal.
