Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Boxing Day; Sammy Bill in the Wetherby 13:35 and Laurina 14:20 at Leopardstown. Compare odds and bet.
All eyes will be on Kempton on Boxing Day, where this year’s King George looks to be a cracking renewal. There is also some top-class action from elsewhere, however, and LAURINA (2:20) is fancied to beat Fakir d’Oudairies in the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown.
Willie Mullins’ mare beat dual Grade 1 winner Minella Indo by an easy 8 lengths on debut at Gowran last month and dropping to 2m1f on this stiff track shouldn’t pose any problems. Despite finishing only fourth in the Champion Hurdle, I remain convinced that she is a top-class mare and she can prove it here.
Domestically, SAMMY BILL (1:35) is fancied to complete the hat-trick over fences, in the 888sport Handicap Chase at Wetherby. Oliver Sherwood’s lightly-raced six-year-old was a maiden over hurdles, but has flourished since going chasing, winning at Kempton on debut, before following up in a decent event at Aintree. He travelled really well that day and is taken to defy an 11lbs rise.
Boxing Day Selections:
1:35 Wetherby – Sammy Bill; evens bet365
2:20 Leopardstown – Laurina; 6/5 William Hill
