This afternoon’s Old Borough Cup at Haydock looks a cracking renewal, in which Alright Sunshine (3:35) remains of considerable interest, as he arrives here on a hat-trick.
The three time bumper winner has now won three times from five starts on the level and despite still showing signs of inexperience (or, perhaps, waywardness) he looks the type capable of landing a nice prize.
Despite veering across the track, he still won nicely at Musselburgh last month and he also had a bit to spare when making a winning handicap debut at Ripon. This looks his trip and a 5lbs rise in the weights seems fair. The concerns are really soft ground (should we get plenty more rain in Merseyside) and the wide draw in stall 15. Danny Tudhope might be forced to ride a more patient race than he would have liked, but he has the ability to go close and is worthy of each-way support.
