Betdaq make David Haye their 2/11 favourite ahead of the eagerly-awaited showdown against Audley Harrison in Manchester on Saturday. The latter is an outsider at 11/2 (William Hill) with a puncher’s chance of success and indeed his unshakeable belief that he will come out on top has started to infiltrate punters’ minds, meaning ‘A-Force’ has attracted plenty of cash.
However, surely only complacency can beat the ‘Hayemaker’, who is comfortably the classier of the two fighters and although Harrison’s dangerous left can undoubtedly hurt the WBA heavyweight champ, he has the speed and skill to avoid it, just as he managed to steer clear of danger against Nikolay Valuev.
Also the big puncher in the fight, Haye is subsequently just 2/5 with 888Sport to win inside the distance and given his knockout power that looks likely. Some pundits are forecasting an early night too and those in agreement can back the ‘Hayemaker’ at 5/2 (Totesport) to blow Harrison away in the opening three rounds.
Nevertheless, presented with this big opportunity, the challenger could hang around a little longer, especially as Haye may be wary in the early stages, wanting to feel his way into the fight. He can end it a later then and Partybets’ 3/1 for Haye to triumph in rounds 4-6 is worth considering.
Meanwhile, over in Texas, Betfred mark 1/5 against a Manny Pacquiao victory against Mexican scrapper Antonio Margarito but as the Filipino legend hasn’t enjoyed the best training camp and seems to be looking to bring the curtain down on his glittering career, he doesn’t appear to be the most reliable bet and the marauding Margarito is more of a threat than his odds of 9/2 (Totesport) suggest.
Pacquiao of course has the advantage in terms of speed and ability, qualities that have seen him through against bigger men in the past and he will probably stop the Mexican in the second half of the fight but at just 4/7 (Coral) to secure a stoppage, we’re happy to leave this one alone.
