Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Saturday; Shanning in the Down Royal 13:55. Compare odds and bet.
The pick of the action on Saturday – mainly due to the quick ground in England – comes from Down Royal, where there are a couple of quality graded chases among the competitive seven race card.
The day’s selection comes in the extended 2m handicap hurdle and in the shape of the Willie Mullins-trained mare Shanning (1:55) who has finished placed in a couple of handicaps, since winning her first two for the yard.
The five-year-old made her first start for almost 10 months when an eye-catching third at the Galway Festival, where it appeared the 2m7f trip was too far for her. The winner – stable-mate Low Sun – went on to win the Cesarewitch at Newmarket, whilst Shanning again hit the frame, when runner-up to smart chaser Ballyoisin at Listowel.
2m on that sharp track didn’t seem to be too much of an inconvenience and, though I think she could be ideally suited by an extra half-mile in time, this galloping track ought to up her street and she shouldn’t have an issue with better ground. It is a little frustrating that she has gone up 7lbs for those two defeats, but she remains progressive and Mullins has handed her an entry in the Greatwood Hurdle, suggesting he believes she will be up to going up in class before too long.
Saturday’s selection:
1:55 Down Royal – Shanning; 15/8 bet365
