Paul Ferguson two selections from Newmarket for us on Friday; Beringer at 3.00 and Elgin at 4.45. Compare odds and bet.
Alan King has had his horses in good order in recent weeks and he has two sound chances in handicaps at Newmarket on Friday.
First up is Beringer (3:00) who ran a sound race in defeat last time, at the hands of Wissahickon, who re-opposes today and heads the market. There was less than a length between them at the line and on 2lbs better terms, the value lies with Beringer who is available at more than twice the price of John Gosden’s runner.
The pair travelled strongly at York and cleared right away, suggesting they are both smart three-year-olds and with conditions similar here, they should be involved once again.
King is, of course, more renowned for his exploits as a National Hunt trainer and his smart hurdler Elgin (4:45) is quickly developing into a smart performer on the Flat.
Fifth in the Champion Hurdle, the six-year-old has since won a brace of novice contests and makes his handicap debut on the level from a mark of 98. Hardly ‘thrown in’ on the face of those results, he could improve significantly in a more truly run race and the longer trip ought to suit, too.
Friday’s selections:
3:00 Newmarket: Beringer; 13/2 bet365
4:45 Newmarket: Elgin; 9/4 Paddy Power
