Paul Ferguson two selections from Wincanton on Sunday; Irish Prophecy at 4:25 and Tidal Flow at 5:30.. Compare odds and bet.
Wincanton stages a decent card on Sunday, with some interesting youngsters on show; Kim Bailey’s El Presente – not seen since Bangor in December – and Paul Nicholls’ Blu Cavalier being two in the opening novices’ hurdle.
The shorter novices’ hurdle sees the return of Irish Prophecy (4:25) who we haven’t seen since finishing sixth behind If The Cap Fits at Kempton on Boxing Day. He was hampered three out on that occasion and had earlier shaped well behind Kalashnikov at Doncaster. The better ground will suit Emma Lavelle’s dual bumper winner and this is a much easier option than the Top Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree, in which he held an entry last week.
Shoal Bay probably sets the standard, whilst Diamond Guy warrants respect in receipt of 6lbs, but Irish Prophecy is a horse that I have liked for some time and he can get back on track here, with conditions to suit.
There are a few eye-catching newcomers in division one of the bumper, but they will need to be pretty smart to beat Tidal Flow (5:30) who created a good impression when defying greenness at Newbury back in November.
Philip Hobbs’ five-year-old gave Burrows Edge (won twice since over hurdles) a 5-length beating on that occasion and he was actually handed an entry in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, when that race first opened. If he steps forward from his debut victory, he will be difficult to beat, despite the penalty.
